Library Databases

Access to these databases is limited to WCC students, faculty, and staff.

  1. Go to http://vccs.libguides.com/az.php
  2. Browse for research databases alphabetically or by subject
  3. Choose a database link
  4. Sign in with your myVCCS username and password. This is the same login you use for Canvas, student Gmail, and the SIS (Student Information System). 
  5. VCCS libraries offer many different research databases, so check with your library staff if you need help getting started with a particular platform. 

Commonly Used Databases

  • Academic Search Complete – Scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database
  • Factiva – from Dow Jones & Reuters -- FULL-TEXT articles from many magazines, journals, newspapers, and newswires
  • EBSCOhost Research Databases – CINAHL, Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source, MEDLINE, PsycARTICLES, and other academic and general interest databases
  • Gale's Literature Resource Center – Comprehensive literature resources
  • FirstSearch – Citations and abstracts to journal articles
  • OVID – Your Journals@OVID, FULL-TEXT articles in nursing and health sciences
  • CQ Researcher – Comprehensive reports and analyses on issues in the news
  • Facts on File – Articles, photographs, historic documents in Facts on File World News Digest plus a live news feed from Reuters. Other databases include Issues and Controversies, Today’s Science, The World Almanac, and The World Almanac Encyclopedia
  • Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center – Access social issues viewpoint articles, primary documents, statistics, links to websites, and full-text magazine and newspaper articles
